Sammy Ronad "Ron" Higdon - Age 63

 SAMMY RONALD “Ron" HIGDON, 63, of Arlington, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all who knew him, went to be with our loving Lord Wednesday, August 29 while at St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett. Visitation was at Ellendale Baptist Church in Bartlett, Tennessee, on Friday, August 31. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Martha Darty Higdon and three sons, Rodney Higdon (Michelle) of Collierville, Ryan Higdon (Paula) of Bartlett, and Randy Higdon (Kelli) of Bartlett. He was the adored grandfather (Papoose) of five grandsons, Jake, Josh, Hunter, Parker, and Cooper. Ron was preceded in death by his brother Lonnie Higdon and father Sam Higdon of Franklin, North Carolina. He leaves behind his mother, Stella Higdon and brother, Denton Higdon, both of Franklin.

Ron was born September 4, 1943 in Franklin. He arrived in Memphis on a football scholarship to Memphis State in 1962 and was a member of the nationally ranked team of 1963. He went on to play one year in the Canadian Football League. He was a long-time employee of Woolco. He worked for 16 years at Firestone. He was most recently employed at Suncoast Carriers. He was also a long-time member of Ellendale Baptist Church. Pallbears were Tony Armstrong, Reid Bennett, James Dehart, Trey Dehart, Tom Dehart, Jim Franklin, Jim McCutchen, Jim Stockard, and Armie Haines. Published in The Commercial Appeal on 8/31/2007.

Ron is a descendant of William Huffman Higdon.

Surname Lives On

At right is a picture of Ron’s family that was published on our HFA website in 2004.

Denton Higdon assures us that the name Higdon should survive for many more generations.

He shares this picture of his brother Ron & Martha Higdon’s family of Memphis, Tennessee.
