Founding President of Higdon Family Association, Frank B. Higdon, Jr., Dies at Age 92 in Virginia

Frank Betts Higdon, Jr., 92, of Springfield, Virginia, who had offices in Alexandria for many years, died February 2, 2010, of pneumonia and congestive heart failure at the Bon Air Home for Elderly People in Stephens City, Virginia.
Mr. Higdon was born December 25, 1917, in Pensacola, Florida, the son of Frank Betts Higdon, Sr., and Arie Mabel Powell Higdon. He came to Washington in the 1930s to study accounting. He graduated from Southeastern University and later received a master's degree in accounting from Catholic University.
He was as an FBI agent from 1940 to 1943. He served as an Aviation Cadet in the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. After the war, he worked in an accounting firm in Winchester, Virginia, from 1947 to 1954 before opening his own firm in Alexandria. He retired in 2003.
He was a member of the AICPA; past president of the Greater Washington Society of CPAs (formerly the D.C. Institute of CPAs); a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs; past president of the local Civitan Club and of a chapter of the Toastmasters public speaking organization; He helped found the Higdon Family Association, Inc., and served as its first president, from 1976 to 1977. He was the HFA treasurer for many years after that.
He was instrumental in bringing the first minor-league baseball team, the Alexandria Dukes, to Washington, DC and was its first treasurer.
He married Doris Marion Fish Higdon on January 17, 1944, in Washington, DC. Mrs. Higdon died June 9, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Frank B. Higdon, III of Covington, Louisiana; a daughter Cheryl A. Higdon of Springfield, Virginia; a brother, William Higdon of Deland, Florida; and a grandson, Jeffrey P. Milam of Springfield, Virginia.
A sister, Ruth Godwin, and four brothers - Maron, Jerry, Horace, and Kenneth Higdon - preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Faith Chapel Funeral Home, Pensacola, Florida. Burial followed at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery, Enon, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Higdon Family Association Scholarship Fund, 4540 Fairway Street, Highland Park, Texas 75219-1605.
