On August 10, 2002, Denton Higdon notified us that the Whistle Stop Mall in Franklin, North Carolina,
had been remodeled to have the atmosphere of the 1890s. The retail stores
were renamed as "The Streets of Old Franklin." The Macon County Historical Society
found twenty-eight families to be longtime residents of the area.
A drawing was held to select the eight street names. The winners were: Cabe, Corbin,
Hicks, Higdon, Penland, Sanders, Spires, and Teague.
Denton recently visited the mall to take a few pictures. The Whistle Stop
Mall is North Carolina's largest antique mall with over 30 shops. It's open seven days a week
from 10-6 on Monday-Saturday, and from 1-5 on Sundays. During the winter months, the mall
closes at 5 p.m.
