I am Karen Nave Fickes. Although I spent most of my childhood in the south, for the past 26 years I have lived in the Maryland suburbs, just a few miles outside of Washington, DC. I am an attorney, specializing in tax law; and I work for Bloomberg BNA. My husband is a consulting actuary and we have two grown children. My work keeps me very busy but in my free time, I enjoy entertaining, reading, and spending time with my cats.
My grandmother was Gertrude Higdon, the eldest daughter of William Thomas Higdon and Mary Arp. My father was Thomas Nave. My sister, Kristin Nave Yokoyama, is the President for 2014-2015. I remember attending a few Higdon Association meetings with my father and visiting Higdon Store, Ga. when I was much younger. My father was always very proud of his Higdon roots and he passed that on to my sister and me.
