Janice was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Albert and Marie Smith. She has two brothers Al, who lives in California, and Bob, who lives in Charleston, West Virginia. She is married to William R. "Bill" Higdon and has a stepson Richard Higdon, married to Theresa Doughtry, and two step granddaughters Caley, age 7, and Ashley, age 4.
