The latter half of the book is a catalog to the exhibition; the first half is a thorough survey of the American portrait tradition, folk art and photography, the tintype, hand-colored photography, copy prints and enlargements, and the decorative frame. Also included is information on collecting, preserving, and evaluating photographic frames and a frame identification guide.
