
Charles P. Higdon is the son of Nettie and Leonard Higdon. Leonard worked as a chemist in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the once secret Manhattan Project during World War II. Nettie was a beloved school teacher in Knox County, Tennessee. Charles married Nancy Lawson in 1978. His paternal grandfather was William Thomas Higdon who married Mary Elmira "Dolly" Arp. His grandparents ran the general store in Higdon Store, Georgia, and his grandfather served as sheriff of Fannin County. After the untimely death of his grandfather, Dolly opened a boarding house in Copperhill, Tennessee.
Charles is graduate of Hiwassee College and the University of Tennessee. He received a Master's Degree with highest honors in education from Union College in Kentucky. He taught for ten years and served as a principal in a private school for six years. Charles now works as a general contractor.
