Ernest L. "Ernie" Higdon

Ernest Lee “Ernie” Higdon is the son of Alex L. Higdon and Oma Shirley Higdon. He was born in Cottonwood, Callahan County ,Texas on March 4, 1932. In 1933, his family moved to Crane,Texas where his dad worked for Gulf Oil Corporation, and Ernie attended school until graduation in 1950.

In 1951, Ernie entered the Air Force and served in the Far East until February 1955. He worked as a medic in air rescue missions that flew from Korea to Japan.

In January 1953, Ernie married his first wife Peggy Williams and had a son named Kenneth David Higdon born June 14, 1954 at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas. After Ernie's discharge from the service, he moved to Odessa, Texas and began working in the oil field.

After time passed Ernie moved to Andrews, Texas where he met and married his second wife Katherine Joyce Tabor. They had two children Robert Allen Higdon born October 16, 1959, and Kimberly Diane Higdon born October 8, 1961. In 1971, they moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana where Ernie worked in the wire line business. In June 1972, they moved back to Andrews, Texas. In December 1973, they moved to Eldorado, Texas where Ernie and Joyce live today and will probably stay for the rest of their time.

In June 1985, Ernie was blessed with his first granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Higdon. In August 1986, his second granddaughter, Allison Samantha Higdon was born. His third granddaughter, Madeline Claire Higdon was born in July of 1988. Ernie was beginning to wonder if he was ever going to get a grandson, but on March 21, 1990, Denver William Lewallen was born.
