
Wilford Dain Higdon was born in Quinlan, Hunt County, Texas. He is the son of John Hoyle Higdon and Sally O'Kelley. In 1943, Dain married Jean Douglass. In all of his activities, his wife Jean has been an active participant.
Dain holds a bachelor of science and a master of science degree from the University of Texas. He served in the Army during World War II working as a laboratory technician aboard a hospital ship returning mental patients from England. Dain served as a public school principal and later as a professor at the University of Texas and Trinity University. He built and operated Camp Jada for girls. After selling Camp Jada, he went into the building business.
