Walter "Wally" Cleere Higdon , Jr. is the son of Walter Cleere and Charlie Louise Nelson Higdon. Walter, Sr. was a nurseryman, vegetable grower, and fruit merchant. Miles C. Higdon and his wife Eliza Williamson Higdon are Wally’s great-grandparents.  Wally can trace his ancestry to William and Cynthia Bryant Higdon. They were born probably in the late 1700s and came to middle Tennessee from Chatham County, North Carolina.

Wally attended Murray State University and as a young man worked with his father in the nursery and landscaping business. Wally worked for over twenty-nine years as a cascade operator at the gaseous diffusion plant in Paducah, Kentucky.

Now retired from there, Wally enjoys gardening, growing roses, woodworking, and volunteering at his church. He and his wife Judy have three daughters and two grandchildren. Their daughters are all college graduates and make their parents very proud.
