Minutes of the 2004 HFA Business Meeting
October 15, 2004
Albuquerque, New Mexico
President Nina Ruth Vaughan called the meeting to order at 9:08 a.m. Paul Brown read the 2003 Business Meeting minutes and requested revisions or additions. Charles Higdon made a motion the minutes be accepted as written and Nancy Higdon seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
Treasurer Charles P. Higdon then presented a detailed financial report for the Higdon Family Assoc., Inc., at the business meeting.

The first scholarship recipient was approved by the Scholarship Committee. The recipient is Kathryn Higdon. Kathryn was an honor student at Sonora High School, in Sonora, Texas. She was very active in school and class functions. She will pursue a degree in nursing at San Angelo State University. The scholarship was in the amount of $500 and the check will be made payable to the University. Application procedures were again discussed for future applicants and their families.
The Nominating Committee Chairmen, Charles E. Higdon, reported on members that accepted being nominees for the HFA Board. Janice M. Higdon was nominated for 3rd Vice Pres., and Wally Higdon and James (Jim) Kelly were nominated as 2 year Directors.
The Newsletter was discussed concerning frequency and page numbers. To reduce pressure on our excellent Editor, the Newsletter should be once every two months and the size could be reduced to approximately four to six pages. In addition to reducing some pressure on the Editor, it will also reduce the mailing cost since a Newsletter of the recommended size could be mailed for 37 cents.
David Mudd, the incoming 2004 - 2005, President, reported on a possible location for the 2005 meeting. He recommended the meeting be near Lexington, Kentucky at the Shaker Village. He will be checking on the location availability and will determine a preferred time in September or October.
President Vaughan reviewed event schedules including all activities and the Oct. 16 banquet. Transportation will be provided to Old Town Albuquerque this afternoon, and a bus will take members to Santa Fe at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Nina Ruth moved to adjourn the Business Meeting, and the motion was approved to adjourn.
