Jane Moore Higdon Brackett grew up in Copperhill, Tennessee (Polk County, in the southeast corner of the state), also known as the Copper Basin area. She is the daughter of Walter Quillan Higdon and Rachel Moore McKey Higdon. Jane's Higdon lineage is: Father, Walter Q. Higdon, eldest child of William Thomas Higdon and Mary Elmyra Arp of Higdon, Georgia. Charles E. Higdon, a founding member of the Higdon Association, is her uncle.
Jane graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Math and then completed a master’s degree in statistics at the University of Tennessee. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas V. Brackett. They settled in rural Fannin County near Blue Ridge, GA and have two sons, Andrew Walter Brackett, (wife Meghann) and Benjamin Thomas Brackett, (wife Annie). Jane and Tom have 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson.
Jane worked in computer business systems and networks for 40 years and is now retired. She volunteers her time with the Fannin County Master Gardeners, serves on the Appalachian Mountain Regional Campus Council at the Bonnie Higdon Reaves campus in Epworth, GA and a scholarship committee at her alma mater, Copper Basin High School. She is a board member at North Georgia Technical College and Fannin Literacy Action Group. She and her husband, Tom, a retired engineer and former teacher, enjoy gardening, hiking, traveling, reading and watching Georgia Tech sports.
