Higdon, Barbara Bauer, 1998-1999 HFA President

Barbara Bauer Higdon was born in Milwaukee as the only child of Alex and Clara Miller Bauer. Both her parents were children of German immigrants and her father Alex was born on the Volga River in Russia. Barbara was always very close to her twin Uncles (Harold and Roland) who were in Patton's tank corps in Italy in World War Two. Barbara attended elementary and high school in north Milwaukee graduating from Custer High School in 1959. She also completed two years of college at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and one year at Milwaukee Business School.

In 1962, Barbara met L. Frank Higdon who was stationed at an Army base near her home, and they were soon married. After Frank completed his military service in 1964 the family (now including daughter Susan) moved to Atlanta where Frank began a 33-year career with the Shell Oil Company. Barbara and the family (Susan, William and Brian) moved frequently with Frank as Shell Oil relocated them to New Orleans, Dallas and ultimately Houston. Barbara was very active in the Girl Scouts particularly in Houston for a period of about ten years. She also started and ran a small business in Houston for several years. Barbara's interests include homemaking, sewing, scuba diving, camping and traveling.
