Captain Leonard Thomas Higdon

Captain Leonard Thomas Higdon

The Vietnam War lasted from 1959 through 1975. The war divided our country as much as the Civil War; it shattered millions of lives, hopes, and dreams. Captain Leonard Thomas Higdon was killed by enemy mortar, May 21, 1970, while on his second tour of duty in Vietnam.

Tommy is the father of Leonard Thomas Higdon, Melissa Dawn Higdon, and Charles Daniel Higdon. Tommy's sister is Bonnie Higdon Atkins; his brothers are Charles P. Higdon and Walter Quillen Higdon. Tommy's parents were Leonard and Nettie Higdon.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial opened in 1982; Captain Higdon's name is located on Wall W, Panel 10, Line 75. His name is also on the Vietnam War Memorial near Dothan Alabama, for Alabama born veterans. (Tommy was born in Monroe County, Alabama.)
