As of the last U.S. Census in 2010, there are over 9,000 people living in this county with the family name of Higdon. Those of us who research genealogy, particularly Higdon genealogy, believe that all these Higdon are distant cousins descending from the earliest three colonial Higdons living in Virginia and Maryland in the early 1600s. Hal Higdon is one of our distant cousins.

Hal was gracious enough in 2010 to come and speak to us at our Higdon Family Association, Inc. Annual Meeting in Kalamazoo, MI, in the fall of 2010 (see last image below).

Hal Higdon (born June 17, 1931) is a prolific author, who has written 34 books. He has worked as a freelance writer since 1959, and has written a variety of subjects including a children’s book that was made into an animated feature. Most of Hal’s later books deal with training for running, particularly Marathons. He ran eight times in the United States Olympic Trials and won four World Masters Championships. He is one of the founders of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). His more current activities and his complete training materials can be found at halhigdon.com  This short biography is an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry: Hal Higdon.
