By Faye S. Higdon, HFA President
Come and renew friendships or discover new relations at the 2017 Higdon Family Association, Inc. meeting 14-17 September 2017 in Alexandria, Virginia. There are ample sightseeing and learning events in the Washington metropolitan area. Check in to the Hampton Inn & Suites Old Town Alexandria, 5821 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Virginia 22303, on Thursday and relax, meet up with other Higdons and friends. The view below is the home of Alexandria's founder, John Carlyle, at the famed Carlyle House.

Friday we venture to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). All who intend to take part in this education event will need to provide information in advance for a personal NARA research card. NARA has to input your information to register you for card issuance the day of our arrival to the building. The Library of Congress (LOC) visit follows in the afternoon with a presentation by LOC staff and a walk through the three buildings if time permits.
Saturday is our annual HFA business meeting held at the hotel conference room. You will have the afternoon to venture to Old Town Alexandria or wherever your heart leads you, even to rest a spell. We wind up the weekend with a banquet, socializing, silent auction, and a program. Sunday is check out unless you plan an extended stay to visit places of interest in the nation's capital. This is your time!
The hotel provides free shuttle service to Huntington Metro and Old Town Alexandria. NARA recommends metro as parking is limited and pricy in the DC area.
